Zero Trust: A Future-Proof Security Model for Digitalized Manufacturing?

The German economy is increasingly confronted with the issue of cyber security. As a result of advancing digitalization and increasing networking in production, not only IT systems but also operational technologies (OT) can become the target of attackers. Networked and adaptive production therefore requires special security measures that support the use of new technologies within a security ecosystem "end-to-end" and are compliant with regulatory measures such as the NIS2 Directive or the Cyber Resiliance Act. Security measures are often implemented by applying established security concepts.

In this context, Zero Trust is considered particularly effective and stringent, as it is based on the principle of "never trust, always verify" and assumes the constant presence of potential attackers within the network structures.

This workshop provides a comprehensive analysis of the potential benefits and risks of Zero Trust in the manufacturing industry and shows how companies can protect themselves in accordance with regulatory requirements.
