Strategic Industrie 4.0 Roadmapping

With Industrie 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution, digitization and networking are making their way into production. Shaping this change in concrete terms is an important success factor for manufacturing companies in order to survive in global competition. In doing so, a large number of technologies must be selected and made usable on the basis of their own requirements and boundary conditions. To this end, the Fraunhofer IPT has developed a systematic approach to individually develop this path together with companies and to support them in its implementation.

Strategic analysis

The strategic analysis aims to identify the Industrie 4.0 action fields, which are most important for the companies. Based on an evaluation of the company's competitive position, the Fraunhofer IPT initially works out strategic goals to be achieved together with the company's partners. To this end, fields of innovation for identifying production areas with Industrie 4.0 implementation potential are assessed and current organizational and technical weaknesses for Industrie 4.0 applications are pointed out.

Process-related analysis

The main goal of the process-related analysis is the identification of restrictions for Industrie 4.0 applications at the process level. For this purpose, the existing data availability is evaluated and the degree of cross-linking by existing vertical and horizontal data flows is assessed. On this basis, future data, software and hardware architectures can be defined to enable Industrie 4.0-compatible communication in networked, digitized production.

Technological analysis

The focus of the technological analysis is the identification of restrictions for Industrie 4.0 at the level of production technology. Existing sensors and their integration as well as the degree of networking of machines and employees in the production network are determined and the current possibilities of data analysis are evaluated. On this basis, open fields of action can be uncovered and the path to process modelling and simulation as well as advanced data analytics can be shown.
