The core aim of the EPIC project is to establish a center of excellence as an internationally leading research institution in the fields of production IT, management and control shaped by outstanding research, development and innovation.
The EPIC research project aims to strengthen cyber-physical production by connecting partners and boosting cooperation projects. The great challenges in this new technological era during which IT and communications technologies will be fundamentally reshaped and revolutionized, will be answered by concentration of multidisciplinary, in part overlapping and in part complimentary expertise of EPIC’s partners in Hungary, Germany and Austria.
The EPIC consortium consists of a cooperation between the Institute for Computer Science and Control of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA SZTAKI), two faculties of Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and four institutions of the Fraunhofer Society (IPA, IPK, IPT, Fraunhofer Austria) coordinated by Hungary’s National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI) as the department in charge of research, technology and innovation.
The program has been funded by the EU under the HORIZON 2020 initiative to the tune of around €10.8m. The total project budget is around €21.7m at a project term of seven years.
