Fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) become more and more important for the construction design because of their excellent properties such as high specific strength and rigidity and their good chemical resistance. A large-scale production though requires next to an automated manufacturing process also an automated handling process.
Apart from customized solutions for special sectors, the handling of continuous fiber reinforced components in the manufacturing process is mainly carried out manually.
As a unifying element of the manufacturing process chain, the reproducible and damage-free handling of textile semi-finished products represent the key for high-scale capable manufacturing. As a result of the specific characteristics of textile semi-finished products, such as flexibility and deformability, the available deterministic handling methods on the market can not be used or only with restrictions.
In the DFG-funded research group 860 (funding code: BR2905/25-2) explores the Fraunhofer IPT therefore handling methods and kinematics, which allows a damage-free handling of air-permeable, impregnated and cured semi-finished products.
