The Fraunhofer IPT has been investigating the use of 5G in industrial production since 2017. The mobile communications research is now to continue with the TARGET-X project, focusing on "Beyond5G communication", which promises new features, improved performance and further functional benefits for various industries.
In TARGET-X, industry and research partners aim to accelerate the digital transformation of key industries such as energy, construction, automotive and manufacturing through large-scale trials in various test environments. Using 5G and 6G technologies, functions such as localization, digital twinning and data fusion between sensors and networks will be tested and evaluated in the various test environments and industries. The focus is not only on performance metrics such as transmission speed or transmission rate (Key performance indicator), but also factors such as sustainability, security and privacy (Key value indicator).
TARGET-X is one of four European testbed projects under the Joint Undertaking for Intelligent Networks and Services (SNS JU) and aims to secure industry leadership in Europe in 5G and 6G. Under the project, through the so-called Cascade Funding, six million euros will be reserved for further sub-projects. Companies with a concrete project idea that contributes to the sustainable and seamless end-to-end development of 5G and 6G can apply for these funds. Up to one hundred third-party projects with a total budget of six million euros can be funded.
Interested companies and research partners who would like to find out more or participate can contact the consortium.
TARGET-X is funded over 2.5 years by the "Joint Undertaking for Intelligent Networks and Services" (SNS JU) under Horizon Europe grant number 101096614.
