Biotechnology and pharmaceuticals

With the spread of modern molecular and cell technologies, biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry are undergoing a transformation that is bringing about completely new and advanced therapeutic approaches: New cell therapies, for example based on stem cells, require efficient and at the same time flexible production processes. At the same time, regulatory requirements are obliging manufacturing companies to implement elaborate control and quality assurance measures.

Fraunhofer IPT is researching concepts with which manufacturing companies in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries can prepare themselves for the challenges of the future: We automate laboratory processes to increase throughput and quality and reduce costs. We also network systems and investigate how process data from production facilities can be used to optimize production systems and products.
